Controller  

Role Summary  

Our client seeks a Controller to join their rapidly growing Oil and Gas business. The Controller will provide leadership and direction of the financial affairs of the Trade, Consumer, and Corporate organizations, including management and supervision of the associated team members in these areas, as well as prepare a financial analysis of operations, including interim and final financial statements with the appropriate supporting schedules for the guidance and review of management. The Controller will manage and oversee the accounting department, including full cycle accounting, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.  

Key Results Area  

  • Direct and control accounting and financial activities with accuracy and timeliness. Ensure that accounting records are maintained per Generally Accepted Accounting Principles  

  • Direct the organization's Trade, Consumer, and Corporate accounting staff, financial reporting, general ledger transactions, and the preparation of financial statements.  

  • Ensure reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts, including transportation, is completed promptly monthly, including establishing procedures and the review, signoff, and follow-up of these documents and reconciling items  

  • Lead, directed and participated in the preparation of the annual budget and assisted in the presentation of the annual budget to the management team and investors, including the consolidation of the financial information and loading of the data into the organization's financial application  

  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures, including monitoring internal control systems, ensuring financial integrity, and safeguarding company assets.  

  • Supervise, manage, lead, and develop accounting and financial staff, ensuring consistency and performance quality across the organization  

  • Adopt and emulate the organization's Management, VALUES, and GRIP philosophies and operate within the Rules of Engagement, establishing individual performance standards for staff members, evaluating their success against these goals, and providing prompt and candid feedback.  

  • Serve as the organizational day-to-day owner for relationships with partners such as American Express, Ceridian Payroll/HRIS, and Echo Global Logistics  

  • Direct external annual financial audit, including the creation and updating of footnotes and external statements and provide recommendations for procedural improvements from management letter  

  • Manage organizational banking relationships, including review of current business partners and cost savings opportunities  

  • Participate in monthly reviews with business leadership to provide insights into aspects of the business from a finance function  

  • Complete, review, and participate in creating the monthly Borrowing Base Report (BBR) 

  • Responsible for tax planning, including the calculation of the annual tax provision and compliance with all federal, state, local, corporate, payroll, and other applicable taxes  

  • Oversee all Banking and Treasury functions, including daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations, as well as approve all outflows through Accounts Payable  

  • All other duties as assigned  

  

Skills & Qualifications  

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, Finance, or related major; CPA or MBA preferred  

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of accounting/finance experience, including a minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in financial management  

  • Knowledge of and experience with audits is preferred  

  • Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills  

  • Demonstrated experience building financial models and conducting financial analysis  

  • Proficient and knowledgeable of automated financial and accounting reporting systems  

  • Ability to motivate teams to produce high-quality, accurate material and information within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects and tasks  

  • Ability to accurately interpret contracts and legal documents and provide financial and risk assessment  

  • Strong and demonstrated leadership, management, and organizational skills are required 

  • Requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule when required including the ability to travel as needed
